Our Story

Rooted in history.
Made for memories.

Some places have a way of slowing time. At Falls of Rough, the sound of moving water, the beauty of the countryside, and the character of the historic Green Farm invite you to stay a little longer.

Here in Grayson County, Kentucky, our story reaches back to the early nineteenth century. What began as a working farm and mill community grew into a treasured local landmark. Generations later, that same landscape became home to Lafayette Golf Club, the historic mansion's hospitality experiences, and a gathering place for friends and families. Today, our purpose is to honor that history while giving new generations reasons to discover the Falls.

The history beneath our feet

Over 200 years of stories.

1821

Willis Green arrives

Willis Green purchased land in the Falls of Rough area, establishing the foundations of a family enterprise that would shape the community.

1823

The Green Mill

The Green family's mill was built along the Rough River. It became part of a far-reaching farm, timber and milling operation that served farmers across seven counties.

1997

A new chapter in golf

Lafayette Golf Club opened in May, bringing an 18-hole resort course to the historic Green Farm landscape. The course later earned a historical 4½-star rating from Golf Digest.

Nearby Rough River Dam State Resort Park, a separate Kentucky state park, opened its lodge in 1962 and helped establish the wider region as a recreation destination.

Historic Green Farm Mansion at Falls of Rough
A landmark worth preserving

History you can feel.

The historic Green Farm Mansion is more than a backdrop. Its architectural details and enduring presence connect today's guests to the generations who came before. Preserving the spirit of this place matters deeply to our vision: thoughtful care for its historic character, paired with warm hospitality and experiences that bring people together.

We want visitors to leave with more than photographs. We want them to remember a family gathering around the table, a quiet morning on the grounds, a wedding celebration, or a weekend that became a tradition.
